Landon Cheben, my hero

Landon Cheben is my hero.   Sure he is my grandson, by marriage to Bailey Dyer, and sure he is not the only fighter pilot serving in Afghanistan but I don't know all the others by name.  I know him by name and by a relationship and I pray that he will come home safely and one day, this will all be a memory he can talk about to his children and his comrades.   I have the same uneasiness each day that I had when my brother, Jim, was in Vietnam.  And I have the same questions about our becoming involved in a war in some faraway country that knows nothing else but war.   The theology of war takes volumes of reading and then one has few conclusions to draw.

Landon is a West Point graduate and received a BS in Engineering psychology.  President OBama was the commencement speaker at his graduation in 2010.  From there, with wife at side, he headed for Fort Rucker, Alabama, for flight school.  Then he was sent to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and on Labor Day, 2012, he was deployed to Afghanistan.   (Half of his deployment is over -yea!)  He spends much of his time flying and I hope the days fly by so that he can come home safely from his 9 month mission.  God speed!
